4.01.2023 Internet down!

 ~~

Wednesday 4th 46F heavy, continuous rain and windy. The rain should clear us by 11am.

The internet has been down for hours [from 7.15am] due to a local power cut. I have arranged a 5G hotspot through my mobile phone to update my blog. Too nasty to go for walk. Had a shower, lit the stove and had morning coffee. Run out of things to do. Cabin fever is rapidly setting in! I may have to go shopping.

The entrance hall now has a picture. I knew you'd approve. Without getting all psycho-babble about it I felt the hall needed to be welcoming. It was the point of entry to what lies beyond.

For probably two decades I had avoided inviting anyone home. It was simply too full up and untidy. Now I must work on the completely opposite tactic. Making the place more respectable and far more inviting. This includes the hideous exterior around the back, main entrance door.

14.00 9C/48F and still raining. Lunch over. Internet back on. I have been to the city. To buy 100% cotton, armchair "headrest" cushion covers from Ikea. Also to return something I'd bought online. It rained most of the time and there were puddles everywhere.

The cushion covers need the zips removing but are otherwise fine. The armchair, which I'd been using upstairs for TV watching, was developing a dark stain from my hair. This is over months of use and late night slumping [and dozing] may be the issue. My head doesn't touch the leather when I am sitting normally

I have bought leather cleaner and protective wax from a furniture specialist. However, I wanted to avoid worrying about this on the other three chairs. So I chose to slip cushion covers over the tops of their backs. Size and colour matched of course. Or so I hoped.

A quick snap showing the cushion cover straight from the display packaging. All creased and stretched across the chair back. With the zips removed the covers will drape perfectly.

I am still looking for suitable [thin] cushions. In a larger size [50x50] than the temporary grey ones shown. The chars are wonderfully comfortable. I just don't want to spoil them. By sitting down thoughtlessly in work clothes or jeans. Studs or zips might damage the leather.

It must have taken me 15 minutes to remove the zip from the 1st cushion cover. The anchor stitching at each end caused the most problems. Cutting a few stitches anywhere along the length of the zip allow it to be "unzipped." I was probably being much too careful and used a tiny pair of needle sharp, nail scissors. Working in a bright overhead light with my strongest reading glasses helped.

Once free of the zip, the 1st cover dropped effortlessly over the back of the armchair. In fact I had a choice. Whether I wanted the wooden frame to remain visible. With only the top of leather upholstery covered. Or fully enclosed. Sorry about the dreadful picture!

I won't see the backs of these chairs. So am not too concerned about this aspect of their appearance. I just pray I shan't have to find an iron to smooth out the creases. Where would I start? A quick Google suggests alternative ways to remove wrinkles from cotton.

Dinner was fish fingers, pasta, tinned tomatoes and baked beans. Guess who forgot to take a picture? Correct! 🙄
