4.12.2022 All change! [Again.]

 ~~

Sunday 4th 2C/36F.  Another grey day is promised but that is still hours away.  Up at 6.20. My lower back is aching again. 17C/63F upstairs, 14C/57F in the lounge and kitchen. 7C/45F in the bathroom and entrance hall.

8.15 The trees are now clearly visible against the dark grey sky. The anemometer and its accompanying vane, point to a north-easterly wind. Still much too dark for a safe stumble along the verge. Lit the stove.

Roller blind in the lounge window.
Window sill needs clearing of junk.

9.20 Returning from a late walk. Almost no traffic and a cold easterly wind. I saw several birds of prey again. They seem much more visible in recent weeks. No walk or drive is complete without seeing at least a few. Gulls are prominent but dispersed against the dingy, winter landscape.

10.00 The heat radiating from the glass door of the stove can be felt from yards away. Care must be taken not to have anything combustible within the danger zone. I must go shopping. Or there will be no lunch nor dinner.

The rack in the kitchen has to go. It has no place there and has been corrupted with junk. Which has no place in a kitchen. I have a large trolley in the greenhouse. Which would suit the corner position beside the fridge. The trolley will become the missing working surface. Where a hot tray, from the mini oven on top of the fridge, could be safely put down.

The trolley will need some titivating when it is warmer. The paint, which my wife applied, has suffered in the harsh conditions of the greenhouse. The latter would greatly benefit from the removal of the trolley. Providing much greater freedom of movement. Which is still in short supply out there. I have not found the courage to clear it properly. It was where my wife spent so much of her time. Sewing and nurturing new plants for her garden. The kitchen will enjoy an upgrade from the removal of the untidy rack. Freeing the rack to be used elsewhere.

11.00 The trolley is now in the corner of the kitchen. The beech, bed slats of the trolley were weathered beyond all hope of rescue. New shelves must be found or made. The shelving rack has become a heap of metal strips on the kitchen floor. Joined by all the paint tubs, rendering and tiling tools and materials. Which must now be found a new home.

The paint pots went under the trolley. There are dozens of new slats stacked on the floor in the greenhouse. They just need trimming to length. A few minutes work on the mitre saw.

I sawed the trolley slats to lengths. Then checked the new firewood for moisture content. Just to see if I could start using it. It was between 20 & 30%. With the white mouldy stuff the wettest.

The trolley in the kitchen corner.
Cement render bags and tiling adhesive.
Ikea rack used for my boots and shoes.
Glazed door behind the trolley awaiting use in a porch.

The red, runner carpet had been laid over the new tiles in the hall. It darkens the hall but provides comfort and warmth. It is also kinder on the eye and much more welcoming. Provided I vacuum it regularly.

18.50 3C/37F. I am struggling to distance myself from too many, repeated, copycat dinners. I have chicken, mushrooms and chips [again] but have overdone those recently. I still haven't found a stockist of Ben's Medium Curry Sauce. So can't use the rice. I don't fancy pasta and peas. So it's poached eggs on toast. With tomato soup and a bread roll. Yawn?

It was fine. Eggs slightly overdone. Next time I make the toast last. So it stays warm.
