23.11.2025 It's never ending!

Sunday 23rd 31F/-0.6C. A cold, grey day with southerly winds. Snow forecast for the early hours tomorrow. The room has just dropped below 60F/15.6C. It only made it to 66F/19C by bedtime. 38F/3.5C in the greenhouse this morning. The front hall feels like a fridge. It acts as an airlock for the greenhouse. Between the kitchen and living room. Just as the rear, entrance hall does.

No point in heating them. I aim for 60F/15C in the bathroom and kitchen. Using the oil-filled radiators. It takes the chill off without costing a fortune in electricity. I wish I'd bought these years ago. Far more useful than the noisy fan heater. Though it is still very useful to boost the bathroom for my shower. A couple of minutes and it is a comfortable 70F/21C. I switch it off again as soon as I get out of the shower.

Up at 6.30 after a fairly quiet night.

8.30 Bright enough for a walk. The sky is lighter and warmer in the east.

8.50 Back again. I was treated to a clear sunrise as I reached the end of the drive. Though it soon clouded over again. Very few birds visible or audible this morning. I walked as briskly as I could. To make myself slightly breathless. Just to see how it went. No problem. The [recycled] medium weight, pile lined jacket is more of a mid layer. Having very little natural wind stopping ability. Turning back for home immediately produced a headwind.

9.00 59.0F/15C in the room. I brought some more logs in from the greenhouse and lit the stove. No point in suffering. It doesn't take much of a rise in temperature to make it feel more cosy. I have put on a fleece hat to warm myself up.

11.15 64F/18C in the room. I have been going around checking for draughts. The greenhouse door to the front hall has a large gap at the top. I'll look for some more useful draught excluder. The simple, sponge strip, which I fitted year ago, can't reach across the gap.

16.00 35F/1.7C. Back from the shops. I went to the next shopping village to the north. They have a wider choice of supermarket chains. One of them had a Christmas market in the car park. 66F/19C in the room.

18.30 I had to do the washing up if I wanted to eat again.

Then I had to distribute the indoor containers into the recycling bins outside. Before dragging one along the drive in the dark. There were a few stars but snow is likely tonight.

Sunday dinner was chicken, mushrooms, peas, carrots, boiled potatoes and gravy.
