8.08.20 Speeding? No problem. It's Denmark's national sport!

~~

Saturday 8th 61-86F. Dead calm, bright and sunny with only a few, thin clouds. Expected to reach 30C [86F] again. Happy Birthday to The Head Gardener.

Now I have the car back I had better start ferrying the prickly, hedge clippings to the garden waste dump. They had better go before they become a serious fire hazard!

Or not. It is far too hot to be doing anything manual. With 75F already reached by 9am it seems more like 10 degrees hotter than that. I have been for my walk to avoid the worst of the heat but still feel too hot.

Lots of white butterflies on the purple thistles in the verges. Plainer one spot and prettier two spots. The latter with grey edges to their wings. Male and female Cabbage whites apparently. Plenty of peacock butterflies too. I watched several different kinds of birds of prey through my binoculars. Traffic quite light but it is a Saturday.

For the first time in Danish legal history a driver has been sentenced to prison for the sole crime of speeding. 97mph in a 30mph zone in central Copenhagen. The bad news? It was a suspended sentence and a one year ban from driving. Move along people! Nothing to see here! Your national license to [routinely] speed at will has just been renewed.

Mette Frederiksen, the Social Democrat, Danish PM, continues to be very careful about opening up Danish society. Judging by many Dane's utterly selfish behaviour she should be threatening huge fines to party goers. A few, extreme right wing politicooze tried to gain a few cheap votes by questioning her authority to control society. Fortunately their party's very public orgy of backstabbing and infighting, for leadership of the wolf pack, has steered their empty sneers away from their intended target. It must be awful when your racist's ticket to a fat, lifelong pension evaporates before your eyes.
