27.03.2025 A nice little earner!

 ~o~

Thursday 27th 43F/6C. Overcast and expected to remain cloudy all day. Increasingly windy, with gusts up to 13m/s from the SW.

Up at 7.15 after another quiet night. I woke earlier and dozed.

Cooking class this morning.  I'll drive there. Foolishly, I have nearly run out of petrol. So will have to detour into the village. Though I will probably still make it on time.

14.00 Back from cooking class. We were only six today. Two hares appeared on the grass outside the kitchen windows. They paused for a moment before making a wild dash for cover. I made a large dish of mashed potatoes. About 1.5kg.

We started with salmon on toasted french bread. Then there was a chicken dish with mushrooms and assorted vegetables in a sauce. Followed by a meringue cake covered in fruit and grated chocolate. Which I forgot to photograph.

I shopped on the way home. Netto supermarket is back to its usual tricks. A higher price on the checkout than on the shelves. At least ten people waiting on the only checkout open. The teenager, the only member of staff visible in the large store.

The woman in front of me was ripped off as well and was being refunded the difference in cash. I started demanding a receipt, which is not automatically forthcoming, when I was repeatedly robbed by Netto in the past.

The checkout staff always feign ignorance. That they don't know what the customer is talking about. If every customer is cheated out of small change it all adds up. What the British call: "A nice little earner!" When referring to criminal activity. Unfortunately Denmark has no official consumer protection.

16.30 I woke from a nap to find it was 64F/17.8C indoors. So I lit the stove. Watery sunshine has broken through now it is too late to warm the greenhouse. It has been stinking for days thanks to the farmers spreading pig's diarrhea on the local fields.

Tomorrow promises sunshine, mild temperatures and a light, southerly wind.
