23.03.2025 Brambles! Be gone!

 ~o~

Sunday 23rd 41F/5C [7.15] Another sunny day spoilt by an easterly wind. It might reach 9C/48F after lunch.

7.15 Up at 6.45 after a very quiet night. My legs and back are aching slightly. Another nose bleed! It feels odd to find everything clean and tidy indoors.

I am free to do what I will today. Within the limitations of the wind. Everything is moving in the garden. Peak gusts of 15m/s at 10am. [34mph] Then averaging over 13m/s gusts for the rest of the day.

 7.50 Going for a walk.

The wind was worse than I feared. It wasn't bitterly cold but strong enough to be a real nuisance. My Ventile winter jacket was chosen for its protective hood. A Red kite provided a flying display as it fought the wind over the house. Wings outstretched, tipping this way and that. A pair of Yellowhammers alighted in a roadside hedge. When they took off again they instantly accelerated to a ridiculous speed downwind.

The Sunday traffic was very light. So I felt no need to escape to the fields today. More and more electric vehicles are appearing on the roads. The VW Buzz van seems very popular.

10.30 48F/9C. I have loaded the trailer with the chopped brambles. They are stiff enough to take up far more room than they should. I keep pressing them down but there is too much resistance.

Then I moved most of the huge, Horse chestnut logs. Down the garden towards the boundary. They are very heavy and not round enough to roll. Most of them had to be lifted and flipped face over and face. Very hard work! I was quite breathless and dripping with sweat. Now I am back indoors for a rest.

Dinner was chicken, mushrooms and boiled potatoes.
