9.11.2023 Nice rack! 😄

Thursday 9th. Overcast and raining. Got up at 4 and stayed up until 6am. Reliving the past in my circular thoughts and dreams. Then back to bed for an hour.

14.15 10C/50F. Cooking class. I went in the MM in the rain. Where I made a complex fruit and veg salad. Another team made the chicken. The last team made the superb apple tart and ice cream.

I stopped on the way home to discuss the MM with the MM expert. Who is going to fit a tow hook at the end of next week. The car has to be officially safety checked afterwards. Known as a Syn [Denmark] or MOT [UK]. As the tow hook is a major modification.

I shan't tow a trailer. Just attach a bike rack occasionally. The idea is drive further afield, park and then ride the e-bike locally. While the two batteries will allow up to 140km total distance it is tiring and time consuming to travel so far. Not to mention becoming saddle sore. Being able to climb onto the e-bike, while still fresh, becomes a great advantage. For the full enjoyment of a new area or more distant city.

I have been heavily researching bike racks. It needs a wide wheel support for the long wheelbase. With enough load capacity for the Moustache. Which is both long and heavy thanks to its full suspension.

The only single bike rack which can manage wide tires, a long wheelbase and 30kg load capacity seems to be the Buzzrack e-Scorpion 1. The popular [and expensive!] Thule doesn't make a rack for a single e-bike. Nor a bike with wide tires.

My Moustache Friday FS27 can [and should] be lightened by removing the battery and pannier bags for transport. I ordered a new [red letter] number plate the moment I had the Morris Minor. This is a legal requirement when the bike on the rack obscures the rear number plate.

The rear lights and indicators of the rack use the common trailer plug and socket system. Which will be fitted along with the tow hook next week. The whole rack can be tilted away from the car to access the boot. A ramp is available at extra cost to ease the loading of a heavy e-bike.

The wheels supporting, rack outriggers fold into a compact form for easy storage. The upright clamping bar is collapsible and full adjustable. Both the clamp and the tow ball fitting are lockable. Strong ratchet straps secure the wheels to the outriggers. Further security using U-locks should be easily possible.

20.00 20C/69F. An evening of watching TV and browsing while I fed the stove at intervals.
