18.10.2021 AI + AD - CTD = 0?

 ~~

Monday 18th 51F, overcast and raining.
9.00am. No walk so far. 9.40 And there was one. It lasted 35 minutes and it was good. This, despite being able to hear and feel the soft but steady patter of rain on my jacket hood and shoulders.

I took to the verges whenever a crash test dummy approached. Many CTDs are programmed to remain within the double white lines on the straights. Regardless of obstructions to normal progress. Things like cyclists, young mothers with pushchairs, pedestrians and other inanimate objects. But, the CTD will unwaveringly cut across the double white lines on every corner/bend. Even against oncoming traffic. Such that the double white lines are soon erased.

I keep wondering what will happen when AI takes over fully autonomous driving. Will special "exemptions" have to be invented to match the habits of the local crash test dummies? Will AI slow vehicles to a safe braking distance on blind corners? How will they [CTDs] make up the lost time? The AI won't let them speed along every straight as they do now.

Overtaking usually rewards the crash test dummy with the "advantage" of gaining only one car length. Elapsed time for the journey remains completely unaltered. Will AI consider the huge risks and [usual] illegality of such maneuvers as permissible? Or just another defect of human behavior to be copied?

The world's media analyzes every single AI vehicle crash as if evil in-car-nate was the underlying cause. Though, usually, the CTD is entirely responsible. Meanwhile the CTDs manage to achieve death and destruction on the scale of warfare. Without the slightest attention of the media.
