10.03.2021 Noisy swans.

 ~~

Wednesday 10th 26F, white frost. Bright start but quickly becoming cloudy with rain promised for later.

A cold easterly wind kept my gloved hands cold for most of my hour and a half walk. Down to the next village. Then the steep track up to the beech woods on the summit. Where thirty-odd, Whooper swans went over.

I descended via the field tracks and back along the marsh. Where there was not a single duck on the half frozen lake. The ground was rock hard wherever I travelled. Even where it is normally very wet and soft. Making progress on tractor tracks unusually uncomfortable.

A cruising Red kite kept teasing me but the sky was very dull grey. Making photography difficult. The images required lots of brightening and heavy cropping. A heron and a pair of geese did their own fly pasts with only similar results.

10.30 and it has only just reached 36F. 39F in the very windy afternoon. Rain by 5pm. Gales and rain tomorrow.
