Thursday 6th 30F/-1C. A sunny day is promised after we get past a thick fog warning. Up at 6am after an unusually quiet night. I have another, but minor nose bleed. 65F/18C in the room but I've lit the stove anyway.
The image shows a typical, winter road scene in rural Denmark. There are no cat's eyes. Denmark is more prone to snow than the UK. Or was! The triangular, plastic posts have white and yellow reflectors as appropriate to traffic direction. These would stand well above normal snowfall. They are steadily being depleted over time. Most often they are destroyed by the hedge slashing tractors. Only rarely are the posts replaced.
Now freed from the tyranny of UPS parcel deliveries I can go out again. Why isn't a promise of delivery a contract? A ride would be nice. I have a manageable goal and can return with the trailer if I find suitable furniture. At a 16km/10 mile distant, charity/recycling shop.
However tempting it might be to go with IKEA again. The obscenely high cost of delivery easily exceeds the price of the goods on offer. Going to the giant store, in the city, involves a lot of messing about. Searching for obscure numbers on giant shelving units. Spread over the size of a football field. Then loading heavy stuff into the trailer. Before the 45-60 minute drive home.
8.00 Daylight. Walk.
9.00 Back again. 69F/21C in the room. I walked down to the village. Then around the prairie up to the forest. Returning via the main track and spray tracks. Sunshine throughout after I enjoyed various sunrises from behind distant obstacles. The mist was patchy and thinning. The ground was just the right side of frozen. Which avoided my getting wet feet or muddy boots. Nor suffered from hard, uneven and unforgiving ground.
I tried my new middling gloves and found them slightly cool. Even when I was sweating from briskly walking over the rough stuff. So it isn't a core temperature problem causing cold hands.
I'll have morning coffee and go for my ride. Before I start waffling and killing time on YouTube. 13.00 Returned from a 36km ride in bright sunshine. I was pleasantly warm thanks to suitable clothing choices. No cupboards.
15.20 41F/5C. Bright sunshine. Back from the recycling yard. The old washing machine has gone. Along with all the IKEA cardboard packaging. The washing machine was too heavy to lift into the trailer. So I slid it up three sloping planks.
Dinner was chicken, mushrooms and tweggs. I washed up while it was cooking. Quite a busy day.
