2.08.2025 29km, fast e-scooter and a bit of a glitch.

Saturday 2nd 58F/14C [7.00]  Overcast. Distant mist. We are offered a bright start. When it arrives. Becoming thundery with the risk of heavy showers and cloudbursts by lunch time.

Up at 6.30. After a busy night tending the fire bucket. Though I slept well enough between dreams. There was a glitch in the night. It was too dark too find the bucket. So I used the remote to switch on an LED table lamp. This morning the remote has vanished. It was left on the bedside table. I have searched several times. No sign of it.

I am hoping it brightens enough. To tempt me to ride to the Saturday flea market in the next village. I can take my wet weather gear even if I don't need to wear it.

  8.00 Walkies!

Gone for half an hour. Traffic very light and far between. Busier towards the end. No sign of brightness yet.

12.00 Back from a 29km ride. Gathered some groceries while I was there. The sun came out. No sign of rain. I was following a teenage girl on an electric scooter. The kid's kick-along type of scooter with tiny wheels. Not something you sit on. She was riding on the bike path just ahead of me. Traveling at a steady 30kph/20mph. Mostly uphill. I was having to use Turbo mode to stay with her and pedaling quite hard. I was curious as to how fast she was traveling.

She was obviously very used to riding it. Because she became so bored at one point that she put her left hand in her trouser pocket! Still traveling uphill at a steady 30kph/20mph. Now using only one hand on the bars. Obviously on the throttle. No protective wear or helmet. She did not slow, at all, for the mini roundabout. Nor use any hand signals at several changes of direction. She swung around the mini roundabout at full speed to turn left across the oncoming traffic. Still at 30kph.

Incredible skill but very risky!  I just looked it up. The maximum speed allowed for these e-scooters is 20kph. So it was illegally fast to be used in traffic. I hope she survives. No doubt she is practicing. To star in the next e-Olympics.
