7.01.2025 Floriane!

 ~o~

Tuesday 7th 38F/3.3C. Storm force gales slowly reducing.

Up at 5.45am after an awful night. Listening to the wind roaring. The occasional bang. Cause unknown.

An electrician is supposed to arrive at 7.30. To provide power to the new oven and washing machine in the kitchen. I had to disconnect the oil-filled radiator to fit the oven cabinet in place. It is freezing out there! 53F/11.7C. Made worse by the wind having destroyed the louvers over the extractor fan. It is spinning at high speed with every gust. I have now plugged the radiator into another socket.

6.45 The stove is going well. I have discovered that the same sheet of polycarbonate in the corner of the greenhouse had been sucked out again. It was lying in the back yard again. The wind is fierce! I had to go out in the dark to find it. Or their van might have run over it! I have temporarily tucked the plastic sheet back in place from the inside. With two battens to try and contain it.

7.30 I just managed to squeeze in my shower before the electrician arrived on time. He is going to remove the recently installed cable through the airing cupboard. Then replace it with a heavier multi-core cable to provide a double Schuko socket for the washing machine and oven. No need to take two cables the long way around. Or any of the other silly ideas I had. The airing cupboard is only a few feet from the fuse-box. With an open boarded ceiling to provide easy access for cables. Even that is not required. As the junction box in the airing cupboard is already wired three phase.

9.30 The electrician has just left. He had to go onto another job. There is more work to be done because I asked for a protruding double socket to be removed. Which would have removed the power supply to various lights. I am busy tomorrow. So he will be back on Thursday morning.

After a torrential shower the wind has picked up again. Whistling loudly through the greenhouse and front hall door. It was supposed to reduce throughout the morning. The highest measured gust in our area was 26m/s. Or 57mph. Elsewhere it gusted to 39/s. Or 85mph!

66F/19C in the room. 43F/6C in the greenhouse. Still not sealed. I dare not risk working outside until the wind drops substantially. The sheet of plastic is large enough to go windsurfing.

14.00 Raining. I was dozing off at the computer so had a nap before lunch. Still blowing hard, but no longer noisily. The sky has gone very dark.

Dinner was a salmon pasty and chips. I nearly forgot to take a picture.
