Sunday 27th 62F/16.7C [8.00] Bright overcast.
Up at 3.30 and still up! I was wide awake. Probably due to napping and dozing yesterday. What am I to do? Have a nap to catch up on the missing four hours?
I have been thinking more about erecting the carport. While I could hire some labourers through an online app. I'll ask the local crane hire how much it would cost to lift the carport roof straight up. So I can bolt the legs in place and lower the whole thing straight down onto the foundation blocks.
At under 200kg it is a light lift but it might/would need long slings. Many lorries have cranes for loading unloading their own cargo. If they can manage lifting a pallet of house bricks over a roof. They should have no trouble with a carport lift of two meters.
8.00 Going for a walk.
8.30 Back again. The neighbour's adopted cat is trying to adopt me. It spends mot nights wandering up and down the drive. Or inspecting the graveled parking space. It shed all inhibitions this morning and approached me in a talkative mood. Then walked beside me back along the drive as I left. Before turning back towards Chez Hovel. Perhaps it is hoping for free meals?
10.00 I couldn't keep my eyes open. So I had a 40 minute timed nap. 40 minutes is supposed to be the optimal duration to avoid waking from deep sleep. Correction! AI suggests a maximum duration of 30 minutes rather than 40. For the same reasons as I gave and to avoid sleep disturbance at night. I'll reset my phone alarm to 30 minutes.
10.30 I just entered the temperature setting instructions for my Vestfrost fridge/freezer. Into an AI chatbot for greater clarity. Its rephrasing was certainly useful. Though the AI didn't know that there is no real display of a chosen temperature. Merely stepped illumination across the six LED lights. Which are obscurely titled: Left to right: Minimum - blank - ECO - blank - Max - Super Frost [or Set button.]
I have an "Outside" thermometer sensor in the bottom drawer of the freezer compartment. Which has varied from -4C to -24C [and counting] Meanwhile, the fridge compartment varies between 0 and 7C.
I had mistakenly assumed that I should keep pressing the Set button from the central ECO lit position until it returned to ECO. Which is how the electrician set it after installing a new wall socket and plugging it in for the first time. Returning to ECO from ECO requires 6 presses, or temperature steps, each time. A reduction of 6C in the fridge compartment setting? A bit extreme! Who knows? No doubt the fridge is now as confused as I am.
It sounds if they are harvesting the prairie to the west.
12.30 70F/21C. Sunny periods and hot. Our hero decided to dig the third hole for yet another foundation block. This involved lifting each corner of the carport roof with a lever. So that I could pull the scrap plywood tracks further along. Until the roof could be rolled. To uncovered the positions for the remaining two blocks. Once the exact placement was achieved I rolled the roof further still. To free the ground where I must start digging. That's when it all went a bit pear shaped. The exact spot was inexplicably inhabited by a cache of bricks and stones. Which were firmly locked together in the gravel and soil. It required the small crowbar to make any serious progress. Now I have reached the darker soil under the self-stabilizing gravel. Hopefully this means I shall be able to dig deeper more easily.
Dinner was fried chicken, mushrooms, cauliflower and boiled potatoes. I made too much. Because, though tiny, the cauliflower was still too large for one person. The Bisto gravy helped it to go down.
