Tuesday 15th 44F/6.7C. A mostly sunny morning is promised. With showers around mid day. Rather breezy from the east. Peaking at 16C/61F in the late afternoon.
Up at 5.45 after a very quiet night. I got up only once at 3am to recharge the fire bucket. I am aching all over from yesterday's demolition and log stacking activities.
My English friend plans to visit me. Instead of my usually going to his place. The correct term for this rare visit from royalty is "slumming." I had better make an effort. Try to reduce the appearance of a tsunami having just passed through.
Though the demolition site is well beyond all chance. Of any sudden transformation. There are hours of work left to do. Before the hulk noticeably responds to my feeble onslaught. It will have to be seriously reduced in bulk. Before I can tidy away the remains. The idea of the ground being completely cleared. Is still more of a forlorn hope. Than any fleeting glimpse of reality.
My progress so far has been almost miraculous. Given the cloud of negativity and nostalgia which pervades the task. Of undoing my own creativity. The ultimate plan is to be able to easily cross the site of the observatory. To fill the hollow behind it. There is a drop of almost a meter. Which could become useful. Were it not sunken and inaccessible.
6.50 The sun has already cleared the low hill to the east. I had better walk off the aches and pains.
7.05. Finally going for that walk.
7.40 Back again after a loop around the spray tracks. A cool breeze. Lots of bird activity. It i snowing petals from the wild plums.
8.20 Making progress on cleaning and tidying. Put the contents of the recycling tubs outside in the wheely bins. Brushed and mopped the kitchen and bathroom. Put the washing up away. Next is a belt around with the vacuum cleaner.
8.40 Ground floor vacuumed. Bathroom cleaned.
9.00 Cleaned the stove glass and kitchen sink. Only 62F/16.7C in the room. Though I am too warm from rushing about. Too early for the greenhouse to warm anything up. I wonder if I should light the stove?
10.00 Still cleaning and tidying. Laundry. Showered. Greenhouse at 71F/22C.
10.10 Stove lit. It's getting cloudier. So it may be some time before the greenhouse can provide any free heat. Towels hung out on the drier. They are blowing about in the wind. It is getting quite breezy.
13.30 My guest has just left with a trailer full of timber. Anything to make a dent in all the stuff I have to get rid of. He suggested I could burn unwanted timber in my stove. Something I hadn't even considered. Because softwood burns very rapidly. It could certainly be used to get a good fire going. Before the hardwood logs go on.14.00 63F/17C. Bright sunshine. The greenhouse door has been open for some time. Currently showing 100F/38C. With 70F/21C in the room.
15.40 Back from the shops. Another supermarket is closing in another village.
Dinner was two perfectly poached eggs on two perfectly toasted slices of wholegrain bread.
